Skeletons in the Closet

This has always been considered a Halloween version of the Stratospheres, but done with blocks. Where I consider Stratospheres a very easy effect, Skeleton in the Closet is not as easy. It is not hard, but you have to be careful. There is little room for error with this effect.

This is a great effect for kids and easy to follow. You can have the skeleton go into the closet as often as you like, until you finally vanish the skull block and show the skeleton finally put together. The effect is not repeatable once the finale happens. Setup is only a few seconds but needs to be done in private. The vanish of the block in the finale is really up to the performer but most use a Devils Hank to pull this off (in the demo I use an Abbott Superior Table)

The Skeleton in the Closet is very colorful and well made, but there are several minor issues with this effect. The effect cannot be done surrounded. Actually the problem with this effect in a nutshell is there are just too many things that can go wrong if you are not careful. The blocks are narrow so when lifting up the closet you must be careful to keep them straight or they will fall over. If you are not careful the effect can talk (adding a little rubber cement to the back of the gimmick helps you "feel" the gimmick at the proper point so this can be avoided). If you are not careful you can flash the gimmick.

Below is the sales ad for Skeleton in the Closet...

Displaying a handsome wooden case, three blocks are stacked to build "Mr. Skeleton" the blocks. Put the three blocks in the correct order inside the case, the kids see Mr. Skeleton upright. Explain Mr. Skeleton is constantly mixing things up when the case is lifted. When you lift the case Mr. Skeleton's body is all mixed up again, the kids yell & scream! The "head" of the body is seen to travel around, Mr. Skeleton is mixed up again! After several times, the 'head' block is vanished from a handkerchief, and reappears in the correct position when the case is lifted; this is a beautiful piece of apparatus. Rugged Wooden Case is 15" x "4 Blocks are 3.5" x 3.5" x 1.5" Reverse Side of Blocks displays a Ghost for optional shows!
